LONGINES FEI JUMPING WORLD CUP™ FINAL IN BRIEF
Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) and King Edward are the winners of the Longines FEI Jumping World CUP™ Final 2024 in Riyadh (KSA). Julien Epaillard (FRA) became second and Peder Fredricson (SWE) third.
Since 1979, 44 finals have been held in this Olympic discipline. After 1996 and 2010 in Geneva, the 2025 Final will be held in Basel for the first time and for the third time in Switzerland.
DISCIPLINE
Show jumping is the best-known equestrian sport discipline. With a great deal of skill, balance, a sense of rhythm and precise control, the horse is ridden up to the jump in such a way that it can develop an optimal flight curve on take-off and overcome the obstacles in the specified order without making faults and as fast as possible.
QUALIFICATION
The defending champion is automatically qualified. In 11 Leagues from all continents, just over 50 riders can theoretically qualify for the final. For some, the journey is too far and the chances of success too low, so experience shows that around 40 qualifiers will take part in the final. The largest share comes from the Western European League. In 14 Events tournaments – the best seven results count – 18 athletes can qualify for the final. There are 14 athletes from the North American League who can qualify for the final in seven Events tournaments – the best four results count. The remaining participants come from the other nine Leagues.
COMPETITION FORMAT
- Three competitions will be counted.
- The first competition is a Table C, three seconds are added per fault.
- The second competition is a Table A against the clock with one jump-off.
- The riders receive points for the first two competitions. The higher the ranking, the more points. After the second competition, these points are transformed to penalties and the best placed rider starts the third competition with 0 penalties.
- Only the 30 best-placed athletes after the second competition are allowed to compete in the first round of the third competition and only the 20 best-placed athletes after the first round are allowed to start in the second round of the third competition.
